It’s not too late to enjoy the Chili Cook-off & Oyster Roast in South Carolina on November 19, 2016. The 17th year for this event will take place at North Charleston’s Riverfront Park. The cook-off is a fundraiser for the benefit of Charleston’s Animal Society Medical Fund. In addition to games like cornhole and bubble soccer, this is an all-you-can-eat event. Last year’s event raised $350,000 for this charity.
Approximately 100 teams will be preparing 5-to-7 gallons of their favorite chili and oyster recipes. In order to participate in the cook-off, teams must use provided software to raise their $500 entry fee. Chili and oyster concoctions will be judged in three categories: Best in Show, Traditional and Unique.
As an added incentive, this year’s teams will be cooking their chili in a professional restaurant kitchen. Teams were allowed to schedule a 4-hour block of time for exclusive use of the kitchen. Since this was done ahead of time, each team’s entry was properly stored and will be delivered to the competition site by Duvall Restaurant’s kitchen crew.
This event affords businesses in the Charleston area to advertise their services since business advertisements will be displayed all around the cook-off field to be seen by an estimated crowd of 4,000 chili aficionados.
Qualifying as a spectator and receiving your field entry pass only requires a $25 donation on behalf of one of the teams.
Attending Charleston’s Chili & Oyster Cook-off is a fantastic way to sample tasty dishes, have fun playing games and to support this most-worthy, non-profit organization.
