Born in 1965, Dan Snyder is the owner of both the Washington NFL team and restaurant chain Johnny Rockets. As well as being chairman of the board for Six flags Snyder is also a major investor in Red Zebra Broadcasting.
Married with three children, Dan Snyder is the son of Gerry Snyder, a freelance writer for several publications. When Dan was 17 he joined his father in his first business venture, a company selling bus trip packages to Washington Capitals hockey games in Philadelphia. Three years later Dan Snyder decided to drop out of college and take a risk on a jet leasing idea which offered flights to Florida and the Caribbean for spring break. Working from his parents’ home with a few friends, Snyder claims to have made his first million dollars with this venture.
Daniel Snyder turned his hand to several other businesses including a college magazine, and wallboards before co-founding a marketing company. Along with his sister and the help of a number of investors who were impressed by Snyder he opened Snyder Communications Inc. in 1988.
When Snyder Communications Inc. went public in 1996 Dan Snyder as the company’s CEO became the youngest to hold the role in a New York Stock exchange listed business. The success of this company allowed Snyder to purchase Washington’s NFL team in 1999 for $800 million. After 11 years as owner, in 2007 Washington’s annual profits had increased by $100 million.
In 2007 the success of Snyder’s ownership in an NFL team allowed him to make some major business purchases. The purchase of Johnny Rockets was announced in February of 2007 followed in June by the purchase of Dick Clark Productions.
