John Sauter is Tower Capital’s founder and president. This Los Angeles investment firm focuses upon opportunistic investments in real estate and operating companies in the areas of equity and debt in the U.S. and other parts of North America. Mr. Sauter is also a senior advisor to the New York-based real estate private equity firm, Dune Real Estate Partners. A well-educated businessman, John Sauter earned a Political Science Bachelor of Arts degree at Duke University. Later, he earned a Business Administration Master’s degree at the Anderson Graduate School of Management of the University of California. Mr. Sauter has more than 13 years of experience as a Managing Director, having served in this position at CBRE Global Investors and M.S.D. Capital, L.P.
Before his appointment to Tower Capital’s president, Mr. Sauter acted as CBRE Global Investors’ Senior and Principal Managing Director. He was an essential part of raising almost $2.5 billion of equity for its assets and individual accounts. Mr. Sauter was also a partner in the company named M.S.D. Real Estate Investments, L.P., an affiliate of M.S.D. Capital L.P. While there, he completed over 20 separate private and public transactions that involved properties and stock valued at more than five billion dollars and equity of close to one billion dollars.
Before his employment at M.S.D. Capital, John Sauter was employed at Starwood Capital as its Vice President of Acquisitions. He was also President of Troon Golf, a concern that is a joint venture between Goldman Sachs and Starwood. There he handled hospitality, land and private equity transactions. These transactions were valued at more than $300MM for both Starwood Funds II, IV and V and Mezzanine Investors, L.P. While at Toon, John Sauter was instrumental in growing the firm, and he assumed the responsibility for the opening of the company’s operations and offices in the U.K., Australia and Japan.
