John Sauter is the president and founder of Tower 14 capital, L.P, a firm primarily focused on opportunistic investment. The company is based in Los Angeles. In 2019, his company made a $60MM commitment to acquire an interest in real assets plus an operating platform of middle street partners, highly regarded apartment and operators based in Charleston, S.C.
In the same year, John Sauter was the chief managing director and principal at CBRE Global Investors. He completed a $2.0 billion investment transaction and raised an integral part of nearly $2.6 billion of equity funds at CBRE. He was also able to successfully separate accounts at CBRE in 2019.
Additionally, John Sauter was an M.S.D. Real Estate Investment L.P. partner. M.S.D. Real Estate Investment L.P. is an affiliate of M.S.D. Capital, L.P, and for eight years, this firm has been a family office for Michael Dell before CBRE. In his time at M.S.D. Real Estate Investment, L.P completed 22 separate private and public transactions involving stock and debt worth over $5.3 billion and nearly 1.2 billion of equity.
Before John Sauter became a partner at M.S.D, real Estate Investment L.P, he was the vice president of acquisition at Starwood capital. He was also the president of Troon Golf, a joint enterprise between Goldman Sachs and Starwood. John also worked on hospitality, land, and privileged equity-related transactions worth over $300MM for Starwood Capital front-row investors, L.P, and opening chance fund 2, 4, and 5.
Furthermore, John’s role at Troon helped to boost the firm’s growth to EBITDA nearly 22 folds, and he also took essential responsibilities for the opening of the company office and functions in Japan, the U.K., and Australia. John Sauter was also a partner at Investec, a real estate and development firm based in Santa Barbara. During his time in this firm, he helped to develop the acquisition of nearly 401 million multi-family offices, single-family and retail home projects.
Today, John Sauter is also the chief advisor to Dune Real Estate Partners, a private firm worth $3 billion of equity in New York. Sauter graduated from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also received an M.B.A from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California in Los Angeles.
