ZeroAvia is a developer of British/American hydrogen-electric aircraft. In 2017 the company was founded by Valery Miftakhov, who happens to be the CEO. ZeroAvia is expanding hydrogen-fueled drivetrain technology levelling to be a competitor of conventional engines in propeller aircraft with the purpose of reserved noise and low emission. By the year 2023, it is anticipated that ZeroAvia technology will have sold its products and demonstrate flights up to 800 km in an aircraft of twenty seats. The organization has a plan of flying a plane over 500 miles in an aircraft with eighty seats.
ZeroAvia organization won an award worth £12.3 million from the government of the United Kingdom on the ATI Programme in the year 2020. This was for the company to develop a nineteen-seater hydrogen-powered aircraft with a 560 km flight to be finalized by the year 2023. The company declared that it would develop the aircraft at Cotswold Airport in April 2021. In the same month and year, the company’s hydrogen-powered Piper M-class demonstrator crashed during a flight from Cranfield in a field. There were no serious casualties in the accident, but the aircraft received serious damage.
The plane also lost its left wing after being forced to land following a power failure. In recent days’ consumers seem to move towards other methods of travel; this is due to concerns about sustainability. ZeroAvia is looking to capitalize on the need for carbon-free transportation, forming a partnership with British Airways to attain its net-zero goal by the year 2050.
