James Dondero is well known as the co-founder of Highland Capital Management. Together with Mark Okada, they managed to start the Highland In 1993 to design the first software by electronic means to track loan portfolios.

Before the idea of Highland Capital Management, James Dondero acted as chief investment officer supported information of GIC subsidiary of Protective Life. He managed to take the company from scratch to over $2 billion between 1989 and 1993.
