If it wasn’t for his hard work, it is possible that today’s banking industry would look a lot different. Belamant is one of the first people to patent blockchain technology. This kind of technology helps to keep data safe by encrypting it as a ledger of records that are connected together. These ledgers allow people to conduct safe and secure financial transactions and make up the technology that preceded cryptocurrency.
Serge Belamant has always been working on technology that is far ahead of his time. In the past, he worked with banking institutions in the Republic of South Africa where he helped to unravel a serious problem. During the 1980s, these banks were having issues because they could not upgrade their ATM machines. Belamant was able to create a cutting edge ATM switch while working with SASWITCH. This helped the banks in the Republic of South Africa because sanctions had made it difficult to do business with Christian Rovsing computers. Belamant was able to get a contract with Stratus computers, and this allowed the banks in the nation to move forward.
Serge Belamant is also the man who helped to create the Universal Electronic Payment System (UEPS). This is the original electronic wallet and is ran off of smart card technology. Most people are familiar with this system today as it is what powers most debit and credit cards. Before this technology was invented, no one could load a card with money and then use it at a store. The reason these kinds of cards stay secure is because of the work of Belamant.
Serge Belamant is the inventor of the Chip Offline Pre-authorized Card (COPAC). He used his UEPS technology along with his Fund Transfer System to create COPAC and did so while working with VISA through his company Net1 Technology. COPAC allowed VISA to continue to do business while keeping its cards secured and its users protected from fraud. Today, the little chip created by Belamant continues to help keep the banking and financial sectors safe and secure.
