The Approach and Mission of Venture Firm Shasta Ventures

Shasta Ventures is a firm rooted in San Francisco, California that works with entrepreneurs to form what they call epic products. Shasta Ventures was founded at the beginning of 2004 and is operated by three founders named Rob Coneybeer, Tod Francis, and Ravi Mohan. The company is on multiple social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, and they also have their own telephone line and website.

They have made many investments in other companies and raised seven funds total. Shasta was originally focused on the consumer technology sphere before focusing on working with entrepreneurs to form products. According to an article from June of 2016, Shasta Ventures raised $300 million for its fifth fund. It was backed off the success they had in investing in one of their partners named Nest Labs that was sold to Google for a big margin. One of the founders spoke about persistence being a big factor in securing the transaction.

As many know, Shasta Ventures invests in tech brands and hardware companies. Nest Labs is not the first successful portfolio brand they have worked with as Eero, Dollar Shave Club, and Mint stand on their own. Shasta Ventures has been doing unimaginable things such as promoting an investor to a top role at the age of just 29. However, they are not the only firm to be doing this in today’s world (Pitchbook).

They also placed Nikhil Trivedi as their fifth managing director role due to his outstanding leadership and success with the company as a whole. Trivedi has founded some startups and was even recognized in Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2015. A student of Princeton, the individual has worked with notable companies like ClassDojo and led other investment companies. One of the founders emphasized the importance of adding women into prominent roles as Shasta Ventures promoted women to finance and marketing roles in the company. Incorporating more diversity has become a big goal for the venture firm.
